Don’t Get Lost in the Sauce: Practical Advice for Practical Brides
It’s easy to get caught up in all the planning and preparation leading up to your wedding day. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with having a vision, making detailed plans, or knowing exactly what you want (and don’t want). But don’t lose sight of what the day is really about.
Your wedding is about you and the person you’re marrying—not about having a flawless timeline or perfectly coordinated details.
Here’s something every bride should know: not everything will go according to plan, and that’s completely okay.
The funny thing is, you probably won’t even know when little things go wrong behind the scenes. Once you step onto that aisle, your perspective changes. Your attention shifts from the checklist to the moment, and suddenly all those tiny details that seemed so important fade into the background.
I could tell you countless stories about the unexpected things that happened at my own wedding—things I had absolutely no idea were happening until long after the celebration was over. The same goes for weddings I’ve had the privilege of helping with. Every wedding has its little surprises, but the best ones are the weddings where the couple never has to worry about them.
So here’s my biggest piece of practical advice: choose one trusted person to be your go-to on your wedding day. Whether it’s your wedding planner, maid of honor, best friend, sibling, or a family member, give them the authority to answer last-minute questions, solve problems, and make quick decisions. That way, vendors and guests know who to go to—and you can stay focused on what matters most.
Don’t get lost in the sauce. Be present. Laugh when things aren’t perfect. Soak in every moment. At the end of the day, people won’t remember whether every detail went exactly as planned—they’ll remember the love, the joy, and the celebration.
And most importantly, so will you.
